Do you want to buy a home? Do you want to return to school or find a new career in the civilian world? Do you need help navigating the VA’s medical system, or need information about any of your other earned benefits?

The newly updated California Veterans Resource Book offers comprehensive information about those and other benefits. Published by the California Department of Veterans Affairs, it offers vital information at the click of a mouse here, on calvet.ca.gov. Hard copies of the book will be available by the end of 2020 through County Veterans Services Offices, Local Interagency Networks Coordinators (LINCs), at CalVet headquarters, and in local libraries as COVID-19 restrictions permit.

The revised eighth edition of the 226-page online Veterans Resource Book offers links and instructions on how to apply for benefits including:

  • CalVet Home Loans
  • CalVet’s eight Veterans Homes of California that provide skilled nursing and residential care to qualifying veterans.
  • The College Fee Waiver program
  • The Disabled Veterans Enterprise Program (DVBE)
  • And many, many more.

Veterans and their families can also find a wealth of resources that include:

  • The California Transition Assistance Program (CalTAP), an impressive website which has resources for veterans returning to school using the GI Bill, and many other facets of leaving the military and leading a successful life.
  • How to find employment opportunities, including how to navigate the Employment Development Department website.
  • How to apply for federal Veterans Affairs medical benefits.
  • Where to find mental health resources including PTSD counseling and suicide prevention.
  • Locations and contact information for the eight regional LINCs, County Veterans Services Offices throughout the state, and a list of non-profits that assist and advocate for veterans.
  • And much more.

The Veterans Resource Book details what constitutes a disabled veteran, and explains available benefits. It provides minority, underrepresented, and women veterans with links for information on resources and advocacy.

It provides information about almost everything a veteran would want to know – from driver’s licenses to fishing licenses, state and national parks admissions, and more. This book is of value to every veteran living in California, and now it is just a click away.
