Fifty years after his heroic actions during the Vietnam War, U.S. Marine Corps Cpl. Stephen Austin was posthumously awarded the esteemed Navy Cross.
Austin died June 8, 1968, when he and his squad were ambushed. He was 21.
The award was presented to his daughter, Neily Esposito, on July 21 at a 50th anniversary reunion banquet for the 1/27 Marines in Alexandria, Va.
