Maintaining the West Los Angeles Veterans Home is no small task. It involves the upkeep and repair for a six-building, 396-bed, state-of-the-art facility, including heating and cooling, plumbing, electrical and physical condition of the buildings. The team responsible for keeping the facility in top condition is the West Los Angeles Plant Operations Team.

In an effort to improve work tracking and comply with new accounting requirements, the team recently took on an important Quality Assurance / Performance Improvement (QAPI) project. All team members now closely track and report the time they spend completing work orders through the Computerized Maintenance and Management System (CMMS). The team handily surpassed its QAPI goal to account for 53 percent of hours in the third quarter of this year, with the combined team reaching 79 percent in the month of July.

“This work is important for the health and safety of our veteran residents, and it makes each team member more responsible for reporting the work completed,” said Ray Smith, Chief of Plant Operations II, who oversees the team.
