Centennial Celebration: Historic Armistice Chapel in Yountville turns 100

CalVet Secretary Dr. Vito Imbasciani joined local dignitaries at last month’s Veterans Day ceremony commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Historic Armistice Chapel on the Yountville Veterans Home campus.

Constructed in 1917 and opened in November of 1918, the chapel was originally commemorated as the Armistice Chapel following four years of fighting overseas and the end of World War I.

This year’s Veterans Day event included the Veterans Home color guard, the Wheel Chair Drill Team, and presentations from Dr. Imbasciani, Home Administrator Fred Just, Deputy Secretary for Veterans Homes Coby Petersen and Yountville Mayor John Dunbar.

Yountville resident Mickey Gandel concluded the ceremony by reading the notable poem, ‘In Flanders Fields,’ which was referenced in Dr. Imbasciani’s presentation on the history of the WWI poppy.
