Despite the normal rigors of the holiday season, hundreds of volunteers across the state had the chance to make sure no veteran was forgotten this year.
In Seaside, Igo and Yountville, volunteers and CalVet staff came together to place holiday wreaths on graves and columbaria at the three cemeteries and remember the fallen.
Each year as part of the national Wreaths Across America ceremony, volunteers help out at more than 1,200 veterans’ cemeteries in all 50 U.S. states, at sea, and abroad to remember our fallen veterans, honor those who serve, and teach our children the value of freedom.
Last Wednesday, the California Central Coast Veterans Cemetery hosted its second-annual wreath-laying ceremony as approximately 100 wreaths were distributed across the grounds. On Saturday, the Northern California Veterans Cemetery in Igo and the veterans cemetery at the California Veterans Home – Yountville joined the national festivities and presented wreaths to honor past service members. This year, volunteers readied and placed wreaths on 3,168 graves in Igo.
