Fresno Veterans Home Celebrates Four-Year Anniversary and 5-Star Rating

by Julie Cusator, Public Information Officer, California Veterans Home – Fresno

Fresno volunteersFour years ago the Fresno Veterans Home welcomed its first two residents. Today, the facility is filled with 300 residents in assisted living, skilled nursing and skilled nursing memory care.

The Home also employs close to 500 employees, who provide quality care for our veterans. Our residents include veterans from WWII, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. They are brave men and women, and we are honored that they call this facility home.

Veterans Home residents and their families were treated to lunch yesterday, October 18, on Founder’s Day, a day to celebrate our veterans and everyone who has worked so hard to make the Fresno Veterans Home what it is today. The Founders Day event also included an art show and bike donation.

It took 13 long years of dedicated effort by a community of very determined veterans and the formation of the Central California Veterans Home Support Foundation to make the Home a reality. They faced many challenges and setbacks, but thanks to their determination, they were successful in their efforts.

Recently, the Fresno Veterans Home achieved a new milestone – the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) inspected the home and gave it a 5-Star Rating. CMS created the Quality Rating System, from one to five stars, to help consumers and their families compare nursing homes.
